The first time I made homemade alfredo sauce I knew I’d never buy a jar at the grocery ever again. There’s NO comparison! I’ve tried a few recipes but none were cheesy enough for me, and this cheesy alfredo sauce recipe was born.
Even before I starting making homemade alfredo sauce, chicken alfredo was my favorite food. Shrimp alfredo being a close second. Now, I seriously have to purposely run out of the ingredients so I don’t make it too many times a week.
For this easy alfredo sauce recipe I recommend you use FRESHLY grated Parmesan. Not powdered Parmesan, not shredded Parmesan in a tub. Buy the wedge and shred it right before adding to the sauce! It makes all the difference.

I’ve never gotten anything but chicken alfredo at fancy Italian restaurants, and I’ve never had any that comes close to my homemade alfredo sauce! Skip the $50 bill at a restaurant and whip this up for a romantic home date night.
Homemade Cheesy Alfredo Sauce Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 1 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 clove minced garlic
- pinch of salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Parmesan cheese
- dash of Italian seasoning, optional but recommended
Homemade Alfredo Sauce Instructions
- In a skillet on low heat, add heavy whipping cream and butter. Stir until butter is melted.
- Whisk in salt, pepper, garlic, and Italian seasoning. Make sure the mixture doesn’t get hot enough to start simmering/boiling hard, this will make the butter separate.
- Shred and add Parmesan cheese. Stir until melted.
- Pour over your plate and enjoy!
What To Pair With Cheesy Alfredo Sauce
I sometimes pair this with homemade garlic bread or oven roasted potatoes, but in a rush linguini noodles, grilled chicken, and this cheesy sauce alone hit the spot every time.

Another important part of the dish is the chicken. We make super simple grilled chicken by cutting up chicken tenders or breasts and browning them in a skillet with nonstick spray. The most important part being McCormick’s Garlic and Herb seasoning. We go through this stuff like crazy. I get the big container on Amazon linked above instead of the tiny one in store. We put this on the roasted potatoes pictured above as well!

You can use your homemade cheesy alfredo sauce for many variations of the classic fettuccine alfredo dish. I love shrimp alfredo, and sometimes we have spaghetti squash chicken alfredo!
