If you’re looking for healthy sides, this simple steamed broccoli is right up your alley. Broccoli is not only 30 calories per cup, it’s high in fiber, and we all could use some extra green on our plates.

For years I bought the steam bags of broccoli at the grocery. One day after noticing the difference in price between frozen broccoli in a steam bag and frozen broccoli in large quantities, I thought I’d give the big bag a try.
With a microwave safe bowl, and cheap frozen broccoli I made steamed broccoli just as good as the bags for a fraction of the price.
The thing I love most about making steamed broccoli is that it doesn’t need babysitting while I’m cooking a meal. Just pop this in the microwave, stir halfway through, and the next time you open the microwave it’s done. This means it’s super easy to make while you’re cooking things that need more attention!
I use this simple steamed broccoli for meal prepping every single week. Since most things I meal prep are reheated in the microwave, this broccoli works perfect. Broccoli pairs perfect with these Teriyaki meatballs!!
I not only pair this with super healthy dishes, like grilled chicken and rice, but with dinners that are more high calorie so I can at least tell myself “Hey, we’re having vegetables!”. That’s the case when I make steamed broccoli with my favorite, homemade alfredo.
