Small Batch Beer Batter Recipe Ingredients

  • Frying oil, I use peanut oil
  • 1/2 cup flour (plus additional for coating
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 large egg
  • 4-6 oz beer

Small Batch Beer Batter Recipe Instructions

  1. Start preheating your frying oil, either in your deep fryer or skillet.
  2. In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients.
  3. Beat egg in separate bowl and add half to batter, whisk in until mixed.
  4. Slowly whisk in beer.
  5. Pat your meat of choice dry and place into a small bowl filled with the additional flour. Toss until coated in a THIN layer of flour. This helps the batter stick!
  6. Move your fillet, chicken tender, etc. to the bowl of batter and flip to coat completely, then hold above bowl for 1-5 seconds to allow excess to drip off.
  7. Carefully place in deep fryer or at least one inch of oil in pan and fry until golden brown! As always, check internal meat temperature if unsure.
  8. As fillets finish, pat them dry of grease and place onto a cooling rack, if you place them directly onto paper towels or a platter while waiting to serve they will steam, causing the underside to become soft.
  9. Serve with tartar sauce or ketchup and enjoy. See side dish recommendations below!

What to Pair With This Beer Batter Recipe

Not sure what to have with your beer battered fish or chicken? I’ll share my favorites!

Beer battered fish and coleslaw go together likes peas and carrots, My Copycat Long John Silvers Coleslaw Recipe is no exception!

Besides coleslaw, of course fries come to mind next. We most usually buy thin frozen fries and cook them for 8 minutes at 390 in the air fryer. This makes them an easy, speedy addition to this beer batter recipe!
