Teriyaki Meatballs with Woo Woo Sauce

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 12 minutes

Serves: 3-4

Sweet apricot preserves, savory garlic, and salty teriyaki, these Asian style meatballs have it all!

Without soy sauce, these are much less salty than any Asian meatballs I’ve tried- hence why I created them!

On top of the taste, they’re an easy weeknight dinner and great for meal prep.

The best part? They bake in just over 10 minutes!

Read below what these sweet and tangy meatballs are all about.

What’s So Good About These Teriyaki Meatballs?

Why “Woo Woo” sauce you ask? The sauce drizzled over these meatballs that literally made my husband way “WOOO” the first time he tried it!

So, as a (very) distant cousin to the yum yum sauce you might have tried, “woo woo” was born.

I’d been experimenting with different elements of salty and sweet, but I knew I’d hit the nail on the head the first time we tried what ended up being the final result. This recipe!

While the meatballs themselves have plenty of flavor, the sauce takes them over the top. The apricot preserves cut the saltiness of the teriyaki, and the garlic comes in to complete it.

What To Pair With Teriyaki Meatballs

I like these meatballs best over a bed of Instant Pot jasmine rice

To make it, simply add 1 cup rinsed jasmine rice to your instant pot with 1 cup water.

Cook on high pressure (manual) for 3 minutes, followed by 10 minutes natural pressure release.

Easy as that!

On the side, I recommend some easy microwave steamed broccoli.

Such an easy weeknight dinner and does great in the fridge for leftovers!

What Substitutions Can I Make In Teriyaki Meatballs?

We use ground beef, but you could substitute any ground meat of your choice.

We LOVE ground turkey but can’t get it any way but slimy, stuffed in a tube filled with steroids and preservatives here in Japan. Such. A. Bummer.

Ground chicken, ground pork, and ground turkey should all work, but you might need to adjust cooking times so watch closely!

I have no experience with “impossible” ground beef- so your guess would be as good as mine there.

If you don’t have fresh minced garlic, using minced garlic from a jar will work!

I know the headache of finding a new item in the grocery store, but I promise finding hoisin sauce will be worth it! It’s with the oriental foods in my grocery, but could be with the sauces in yours.

Let’s get cooking, see recipe card below!

  • Servings: 3-4

Take your taste buds on a trip to Asia with these simple baked meatballs, great for dinner or meal prepping!

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 6 tbsp bread crumbs or panko
  • 2 tbsp teriyaki
  • 1 tbsp hoisin, sauce
  • 1 tbsp apricot preserves

Woo Woo Sauce

  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp teriyaki
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp hot water
  • 1 tbsp apricot preserves
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Directions

  • 1)
    1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
    2. In a medium sized bowl or stand mixer with the paddle attachment, combine all ingredients for the meatballs.
    3. Roll mixture into meatballs and place them evenly into a lightly greased baking pan with sides at least 1/2 inch tall.
    4. Bake for 12 minutes. If your meatballs are on the smaller side, you might need less time. If they are large, you will need to cook them longer.
    5. While the meatballs are in the oven, combine all sauce ingredients into a small microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 15 seconds to warm the mixture. Stir until smooth.
    6. Enjoy! Serve these over rice or by themselves. We drizzle the sauce over the plate, but you can use it to dip as well!
